History of Yuan Regular Script

Yuan Dynasty — Zhao Mengfu (1254–1322). Regular script (楷书) matured in the Tang dynasty, but the Yuan master Zhao Mengfu gave it a new standard of elegance. His "Zhao style" (赵体) is one of the four canonical regular-script styles alongside Yan, Liu and Ou.

Zhao Mengfu combined the discipline of Tang masters with a softer, more flowing brush — his characters are perfectly legible yet never mechanical, making his style the most approachable for modern learners.
